Chin and Cheek Augmentation

Chin and Cheek Augmentation:

The chin and the nose are the facial features that most clearly define your profile. In some cases, increasing the chin projection can bring the entire profile into harmony. Chin and cheek augmentation are generally performed only after the facial bones are fully developed, usually not before the age of 15 for girls and 17 in boys.

You and Dr. Anderson, an experienced board certified plastic surgeon, will work together to determine the best surgical plan that will fill your desires and meet your individual needs. Dr. Anderson generally uses computer imaging to assist you with your decision making regarding chin or cheek augmentation. Dr. Anderson has performed hundreds of chin and cheek implants and is very positive regarding these procedures because most patients are extremely happy with the improved appearance following surgery. They often state that they feel feel more self-confidence about how they look.

Chin and cheek implantation procedures are performed in our fully accredited outpatient surgery facility and either of the procedures usually take about one hour. Monitored anesthesia and local anesthesia provide a painless operation which you should sleep through. You should arrange to have someone drive you to and from surgery and to assist you for a day or two after you return home.

CHIN Enhancement:

Chin augmentation is performed by inserting a medical grade silicone implant through a virtually invisible small incision made under the chin. The implant is secured in place with stitches and a light compression chin dressing is applied for approximately 24 hours. You may feel some discomfort a few hours after the surgery and this should be easily controlled with pain medication as recommended by Dr. Anderson. Your chin may feel rather stiff and achy for several days. Some swelling in the chin is likely but most of that should go down within a week or two.

Occasionally, suctioning of fat under the chin is also recommended at the time of implant placement, depending upon the individual characteristics.

Cheek Enhancement:

The cheeks also play an important roll in defining an attractive face, and well-defined cheekbones have long been recognized as a hallmark of beauty. Aesthetic plastic surgery offers various ways to restore a more youthful appearance to the cheeks. In addition to a cheek or endoscopic mid face lift, discussed elsewhere on this site, implants made of medical grade silicone can be implanted to add permanent volume and definition to the cheek and midface.

At the time of your consultation, Dr. Anderson will help to analyze the overall structure of your face and help to determine if you are a suitable candidate for surgery.

The implants used for cheek augmentation are available in a wide variety of sizes and shapes, which allows Dr. Anderson to custom fit the implant to each patient’s face. The incision for cheek implantation is usually made inside the mouth between the cheek and gum. The implant will rest directly on the cheekbone and is secured in place with one or two stitches. You should be able to return to work within three to five days, however, the degree of swelling may be a determining factor. Recovery can vary greatly from individual to individual, and for some, swelling may not completely subside for several months.

Most patients are extremely happy with the results of cheek enhancement. Beyond being satisfied with your more aesthetically pleasing appearance, you might feel a surge of self-confidence. If you are physically healthy and realistic in your expectations you may be a good candidate for facial implants.
